Buh Bye, February

Another month, come and gone, and spring is right around the corner! Also, today is my favorite day of the year (or four years). I was almost born on leap day and I think that would have been so cool (I would be celebrating my 6th birthday today!) So anyway, we're celebrating the end of February and the beginning of March with a little wrap up. February was full of craft projects, sketches, nights out with friends, baking adventures, and fun books. How was your month?

Make Your Own Salt Scrub

This project was so incredibly simple, I can't even call it a DIY project. Mostly, it just requires taking a couple items from your pantry and mixing them together. Then you get to save a bunch of money by never having to buy expensive salt scrub ever again!

What you need:

• kosher salt
• coconut oil
• a jar
• a spoon

Mix two parts salt with one part oil. Make as much as you want. That's seriously it. And you can even use regular salt or sugar in place of kosher salt, and pretty much any kind of oil instead of coconut oil (but coconut oil has basically no scent, which is why I prefer it). If you want to get fancy, you can add some essential oils or spices like cinnamon. But no matter how fancy you want to get, it is still basically the most simple project ever.

DIY Crochet Flower Cardigan

I basically live in cardigans. They're perfect for me, because I'm always cold but I hate wearing big hoodies or coats. I'm also the type of person who buys multiples of the same item (slightly different colors/styles) when they find something they like. So I've been looking for ways to spruce up my vast cardigan collection, and I came up with these simple crochet flowers.

I'm not good with patterns, but there are a ton of crochet flower patterns out there (see: 1, 2, 3). Once you've completed a few flowers, you can sew on some buttons (I used vintage ones, but you could also buy a matching set at any craft store), and either stitch the flowers onto a pin or directly onto your cardigan.

It's that simple - no more boring sweaters, yay!

Downton Abbey Fashion

I'm sure that many of you, like me, have been swept up in the Downton Abbey hype. When I first started hearing about the show, I thought, "It's probably not as good as everyone says it is, but it's got to be worth watching if for nothing else but Maggie Smith and the clothing." Well, it is as good as everyone says, but even if it weren't, Maggie Smith and the clothes would still make it worthwhile. I've always been a big fan of the Edwardian style, and the elegant beaded dresses and feminine touches on this show are seriously amazing. And the hats. Oh, the hats. See for yourself.
