September Wrapup

September is one of my favorite months of the year. So I'm a little sad to see it go, except that I love October even more. I'm looking forward to making Halloween costumes and going to corn mazes and apple orchards (and to be honest I'm pretty excited for radio stations to start playing Christmas music non-stop). But I spent this month mostly prepping for fall at home, along with some traveling and taking some sick time away from posting and working. Here are some of the highlights:

My favorite posts from September:

And some goals for October:
  • Make at least a couple of really cool Halloween costumes
  • Organize my craft stash
  • Don't buy any clothes/shoes/etc. AT ALL

I hope you all had a great month too. Who has fun plans for October?

Shopping Hiatus

Lately I've been shopping kind of a lot. I'm not sure what has gotten into me, because normally I'm not a huge shopper. I like good deals, but I don't really go out of my way to buy new clothes often. But lately I've just been running into so many good sales and I have a hard time passing them up.

I also think part of it is that it's fall and up until a few years ago I always had a reason to do some extra shopping around this time. Now, not only am I in school but I also work at my house so there's really really no reason to be buying new clothes. (but who decided students get to have all the fun, right?)

(please excuse my creepy smile - the sun was really bright and it was burning my eyeballs)
Oh well, so the damage is done. But now I think it's time for a shopping hiatus. I need to put myself on a spending freeze for clothing, accessories, and anything similar for at least a few months. Maybe if I say it here then I'll actually do it. I have a vacation coming up that I need to save for and there are still plenty of things I want for my apartment. So I'm making this bold declaration that probably no one cares about in the hopes that I'll stick to it on my own or that I can at least get a Twitter intervention if I think it's a good idea to wander into a mall one day.

The Importance of Girl Friends

This weekend, I went out for "brunch" (we got to the restaurant at around 2:30pm so they weren't actually serving breakfast anymore - it was quite upsetting) with some of my girl friends. I had to bring my camera because my computer wasn't at my apartment and I needed to upload some pictures. So I decided to document the outing for a post or whatever. I felt like such a ~blogger, and it was a little weird. I mean, sometimes I like looking at those "here's me and some people you don't know eating really cute food and walking around a cute town" posts, but I never read what goes along with them (sorry). I just assume it's something like: cupcakes, vintage shopping, lunch, cupcakes, macarons, cupcakes, coffee with a little design on the top, look how pretty my friends are, cupcakes. And I wasn't really into writing one of those (though I do like cupcakes and my friends are pretty).

But I did want to write about something I think is pretty important: girl friends. I see a lot of girls (more so a few years ago - I hope that most of us grow out of this way of thinking by our mid 20's) saying they don't have girl friends or don't want girl friends. They're too catty or they just like hanging out with guys more. I like my guy friends, but I really don't know what I would do without my girl friends. You can talk about certain things with girl friends that you can't talk about with anyone else. You can make fun dates and freak out about meaningless stuff without being judged. I think a lot of us (myself included) have gone through stages where we took our girl friends for granted in favor or other relationships, but I really do think it's an essential part of life and I just hope more people can realize that.

So I guess my point is that if you haven't seen them in awhile, call some girl friends up this weekend and go have brunch. Or go shopping. Or just watch a crappy movie together. If you live far away from them or can't go out, at least call them or have a Skype date. And if you don't think girl friends are important, then you don't know what you're missing.

And as a side note: my friends and I went out to lunch this weekend and then we did some shopping at a vintage store and had mini cupcakes. IT WAS REALLY CUTE.

Recovery Week

So last week was my "recovery week" where I was supposed to get back on track after vacation. But I got sick. It was a week full of soup and cough drops and laying around, which I normally don't mind, but I just didn't get as much accomplished as I was hoping.

So I guess now this week is my recovery week from my previous recovery week. I'm still feeling a bit under the weather, but well enough to at least work full days and go out when needed. But I think I'll stick to comfy clothes and lots of tea.

But in happier news, the leaves are starting to fall and it's getting pretty cold here. Every year at this time I get so happy every single time I go outside and breathe that air and crunch those leaves.

Sponsor in October

It's that time again... time to show off some of my fantastic sponsors of the month and see if anyone wants to join the group for next month. Traditionally, October is one of my highest traffic months of the year due to all the costumes and other Halloween projects I've done - and I have A LOT of great things planned for this year too. So if anyone is interested, rates are pay-what-you-can, and I also accept trades with other bloggers. Just email me at wattlebirddesigns at gmail dot com for more info or to reserve your space!
