My Shopping Habits

I've recently become addicted to online shopping. BUT I hate hate hate spending money. So really I'm more of an internet-browsing addict.

I got this dress/top online while F21 had its "shop for Japan" day where all the proceeds were donated to Tsunami relief. It was still on sale (I can only buy things when they're on sale) but philanthropy is one of the only ways to get me to actually pull the trigger and buy something. I have a lot of clothes, but most of them I've had for a loooonnng time. I barely every throw things away, and I do a lot of my (rare) shopping from thrift stores, garage sales, and even friends/family members who are cleaning out their own closets.

Lately I've been wanting to drop some cash on a few new vintage dresses. I have my eye on several on Etsy, but I CAN'T BUY THEM. I don't know what my problem is. All of the ones I want are affordable, but when my mouse hovers over that "add to cart" button, I get cold feet. I can't do it.

I know this is better than the alternative of spending all my money as soon as it comes in, but I sort of wish I could find a happy medium. I've always been a saver, but if you never spend your money then what good is it? You're supposed to spend it on things that make you happy, right? **Update: since scheduling this post a few days ago, I bought a few really really cheap dresses from Shop My Closet sales (my favorite things on the internet) & now I am happy and don't feel the need to online shop for awhile, I think!

So what about you? Are you a spender or a saver (or some kind of crazy mutant who's found a happy medium between the two)?

Vintage Dresses Under $50

I'm obsessed with vintage dresses and saving money. I'm way too cheap to buy all of the dresses I want, so I just thought I'd share all of them with you so that you can buy them before I get to them (thus saving me money - hah!) Most of these are way way under $50, so enjoy the savings!

Tea Party with Lipton All Natural Iced Teas

Yesterday, I had a little tea party. My friends, Whitney, Katelyn, and Jordan joined me in enjoying some All-Natural Lipton Iced Teas. We sampled 6 different flavors in our fancy teacups. They were all delicious and it was a fun little impromptu get-together/girl-talk-fest.

Our flavor varieties:
  • Iced Tea with Blueberry Pomegranate
  • Green Tea with Passionfruit Mango
  • Iced Tea with Lemon
  • Green Tea with Citrus
  • Diet Green Tea with Watermelon
  • Diet Green Tea with Citrus

Our Favorites:
We all really liked all of them, so it was a tough decision. But we all picked a favorite in the end.

Katelyn's favorite - Green Tea with Passionfruit Mango

Whitney's favorite - Iced Tea with Pomegranate Blueberry

Jordan's favorite - Diet Green Tea with Citrus

My favorite - Diet Green Tea with Watermelon

About New 100% Natural Lipton Iced Tea

  • 50-70 calories per serving, depending on the flavor
  • Available for $0.99-$1.59
  • Visit www.facebook.com/liptonicedtea or www.twitter.com/lipton for more information
  • Lipton sent me some drink recipes along with my tea samples and I legitimately think they look really awesome so I wanted to share them (but I'm too lazy to write them out myself - hah!) (click the photos for a larger version)

So for the next tea party I think we'll have a tea/cocktail party!

The fine print: I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by Gen-Yknot on behalf of Lipton and received Lipton product samples and a subscription to Pandora One to facilitate my candid review. Gen-Yknot also sent me a promotional item to thank me for my time.

Here's a List

For the last several weeks, I've been a really awesome blogger. I've had posts scheduled for every day, at least a week in advance. I've had no shortage of topics, and it hasn't felt forced or difficult at all. Then today, I went to go look at my saved posts and realized I was all out! I have been so busy that I didn't even realize! So I threw one together full of random thoughts and reminders. I hope you don't hate me for being a lazy blogger...

1. I'm completely addicted to Shop My Closet sales. I've bought three dresses in the last two days, which is really out-of-character for me. I can't wait for them to come in the mail!

2. I shared my experience at the National Kidney Foundation's Kidney Walk over at the Handmade With Purpose blog. Take a peek!

3. I still have a few spaces open for June sponsors here at the blog. Learn more here, or email me to reserve your space.

4. I'm having a tea party right now with some friends (yes, as I write this post). The tea flavors are really awesome - expect a post about it soon!

5. After this, we're going to see the Hangover 2 at midnight. So excited!!!

6. Don't forget to enter this bonus giveaway from Whimsical Poppysmic (and take advantage of all the coupon codes from my sponsors)! The giveaway ends Sunday and most of the coupon codes expire at the end of the month.

7. That's all I can think of right now, but I feel like I should have 7, because it's the most powerful magical number (nerd alert!)

Okay, bye.

Stay Gold

What do you do when you're feeling "blah?" The weather here has been super gray and I have a few semi-boring/frustrating projects I'm working on right now, so I've been going through one of those little funks recently.

It's nothing big of course, just one of those things we all go through every so often. When it happens, I try to dress up a little more than usual. I especially like wearing yellow and/or gold because they are my favorite colors and they just feel a little more bright and happy. Even though I don't feel like really dressing up at first, it usually helps me feel more human than just sitting in sweats all day.

Other things that make my days a little brighter: fresh-brewed tea, taking a break in the afternoon to sew or knit, walking or exercising outside (weather permitting), browsing vintage shops for pretty dresses, cleaning and organizing my workspace, and reading or browsing magazines.

So what's on your list of happy things to brighten your day?? Let's share ideas!

Matryoska Embroidery

If you've been following my From my sketchbook posts, you'll know that I am just starting to get into embroidery. I love it, but it's definitely challenging. I thought it would be neat to sort of track my skill level by embroidering the same basic object over and over again. I really like Matryoshka dolls for some reason, so I chose that as my subject.

This is my first try. My goal was to make it recognizable, which I guess it is. But.... yeah.

On my next try I used this sketch I did as a base. I think I came fairly close, and I'm soooooo much more happy with my second try.

My skill level is still really... simple? That sounds like a nice word to use. But I'm definitely pleased with my progress as I haven't used any kind of patterns for these or anything - just my little sketches! I'm probably going to try a few more of these dolls before I move onto other things. Do you have any new skills you're trying out?
