From My Sketchbook

Since starting my new favorite hobby, embroidery, I've been doing a whole lot of sketching (one of my old favorite hobbies). I love creating new designs that I can later stitch up! My sketches are super simplistic and usually revolve around crafts, art, or food in some way.

I think I might start doing a weekly feature with little drawings from my sketchbook, just to see how I progress. And maybe once I get better at embroidery, I'll start doing some more intricate drawings.

These sketches are mine and are not intended for commercial use (by anyone but me). Feel free to use them in a personal/inspirational way though :)

30 Days of Lists: Week 2

I've fallen soooooo behind on this 30 Days of Lists thing... Sorry! But I'm playing catch-up this week so you can expect lots of lists in the near future.

For week 2, I wrote my notes using crayon (because I'm 6 years old, apparently). UNFORTUNATELY, they were Rose Art, and everyone knows that Rose Art crayons are the WORST (not even sure how they got into my house, to be honest). But I hope you can look past the crappy choice of crayon brand and enjoy the lists anyway!

An Outfit: Lime Green Sailor

This weather is freaking me out. It looks absolutely gorgeous outside, and then you open the door and this frozen air just hits you out of nowhere. I don't remember 35 degrees feeling this cold back when it was actually winter...

Anyway, I've been trying to fake spring by dressing like it. Maybe Mother Nature will follow my lead one day?

Also, it's still too cold to go outside for photos. I'm a wimp. *Linking up to The Pleated Poppy for WIWW*

Miscellany Monday

Hi everyone! It's time for more randomness this Monday morning! Ready?

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

1. I've been hard at work on blog designs for some seriously fabulous ladies. You can check out the ones I've done and look into the new pricing/packages I have set up. I seriously love this new gig!

2. My mom just started a new blog about her experience with breast cancer. There's not much content just yet, but you should check it out (and follow, maybe?)

3. Remember to ask me some random questions for my Q&A post (hopefully going up next week! You can ask them in the comments of this post, if you'd like!

4. I've been stupidly behind on emails. I'm so sorry. Please don't think I'm being rude or ignoring you if you're waiting on one from me. I'm a terrible procrastinator and I'm working my way through the dreaded inbox today.

5. My March Madness bracket got completely destroyed over the past few days. I was in first place going into this weekend, but my top pick, Kansas, just stomped all over my dreams of winning $200 for flipping a coin a bunch of times.

6. I started knitting my costume for the Deathly Hallows release this summer. A little early? you might ask... well, I'm going as Molly Weasley and I'm knitting the ENTIRE ensemble. I take my geekdom seriously.

7. If you want to become a sponsor for this blog during April, go here.

8. Everyone should drop what you're doing right now and go buy something from the Love for Japan etsy shop. OR you can donate some of your handmade items to the cause. I'm working on getting some listings together today.

Craft Space

I've been working on getting more organized with my crafting space lately. I don't have a specific "craft room" per se, but I have some snazzy new shelves, a dress form, and a cute vintage sewing machine table.

I'm still working on getting everything how I want it (I have SO much more that's not pictured), but it's going to be a looooong process. I'll be sure to keep you updated throughout!

What does your craft space consist of? Do you have a designated craft room? Are you organized? And most importantly... any organization tips for me and the rest of us??

Saturday Snapshot: Mustache Fun

I like Yellow Songbird's Saturday Snapshot, because it gives me an excuse to look through my old pictures on Facebook and tell a story about some really ridiculous event in my life.

This one is from a day a couple years ago when my friends and I got together and decided to wear mustaches (obviously). We also invented a beverage called "summer girls by LFO." We're pretty ridiculous.

A Bunch of Reminders

So today I'm going to be "this blogger," and blog about stuff that I've already blogged about, just in case you missed it. So here it is:

I have a really really cute giveaway going on right now to win some crafty, delicious goodness from Sweetie Pie Bakery. It has low entries, so you should go enter now!

I'm doing a Q&A post and still need a few more Q's before I can post the A's. You can leave your Q's in the comments on this post or this one.

I still have some spots open for April Sponsors. There's a discounted rate and a new sponsor feature! Go here or email me for more info.

I'm looking for some more people to interview for my 4 silly questions feature. If you're interested, send me an email {wattlebirddesigns (at) gmail.com}

There's a really great shop called Love for Japan that just opened and is donating all proceeds to relief efforts in Japan. It's a collaborative effort, so you should all consider donating, buying, or just spreading the word!

Happy Friday, friends!! Anyone have any fun weekend plans??

DIY Pinwheel Hair Accessories

I shared this little tutorial as a guest post for Good Times Never Seem Sew Good a few weeks ago. You can see the post on her blog here.

***

Spring is in the air, and one of my favorite spring trend this year is pinwheels. Not only are they cute, colorful and nostalgic, but they're also super easy to make. Here's how to add a little spring color to your accessories!

What you need:
  • Felt in 2 contrasting colors
  • Scissors
  • Button
  • Elastic Headband
  • Needle and thread

This project can also be done with cute fabric or other materials. I like working with felt because it's so simple. This project literally took 5 minutes!

Happy spring!

Call for April Sponsors

It's that time again. I have some sponsor spots available for April. If you have a handmade or vintage shop or blog, I'd love to have you.

Rates for April are: $7 for one month or $15 for three months. This includes a 150x100px ad on my right sidebar, inclusion in a group sponsor post (a new feature!), and an optional giveaway post.

For more info, stats, or to book your spot, send me an email at wattlebirddesigns (at) gmail.com.

Ask Me Stuff

A lot of people have been doing question and answer posts lately, and it looks like a lot of fun!

I'd like to know what you guys want to know about me - either serious questions or silly ones (yes, you can steal questions I've used in 4 Silly Questions interviews). So ask away! Either leave me comments here, email me, or ask here on Tumblr (you don't need an account, and you can ask anonymously). Have fun, and I'll do an answer post soon!

A Photo An Hour

Want to know how I spend my days? (not that any two are ever the same) I decided to snap a photo every hour throughout the day so you can see some of what I'm up to throughout the day. So here it is:

7AM: Wake up and instantly turn on the computer. I'm definitely a morning person, so as soon as I wake up I'm ready to get to work. I usually sit in my bed for awhile catching up on emails, maybe blogging a bit, tying up any loose ends from the day before, and reading over Indie Biz 3.0 posts.

8AM: Breakfast time. This varies so much every day. I don't have too much of a routine as far as food. I might have some cereal or yogurt, or if I'm feeling ambitious I'll whip up some eggs. I usually eat while working on the computer.

9AM: I like to have a to-do list for the day, and it usually includes a lot of different things, so in the morning I like to prep for all of it. I set out fabric, gather yarn, or whatever I might need for a day full of making stuff.

10AM: Though I love spending the day creating, the reality is there's a lot of other work to do. I spend the majority of my day on the computer, so I need some entertainment/background noise. Netflix instant keeps me sane. I usually just watch TV shows I've already seen so I don't get too sucked in and can still focus on what I'm working on.

11AM: Still working, but I need to stay hydrated! I love coffee but I can't drink it ALL day, so I like to have some tea now and again too. Chai is my favorite.

12PM: Lunch, lunch, lunch. I love salads with turkey and avocados - my favorite!

1PM: Though I've been working for hours, I haven't actually gotten ready for the day yet. I feel really motivated in the morning and I don't want to waste that motivation. So I usually shower and get dressed up in the middle of the day (when I'm feeling a little "blah"). Getting dressed up gives me the extra energy for the rest of the day.

2PM: I might take a break from writing and organizing to have some fun - knit, sew or do something else creative. This is a skirt I just finished.

3PM: If I have any orders to go out that day, I'll package them and head to the post office.

4PM: On normal days, I'll go back to writing, but once a week I head to a local middle school to teach a knitting class.

5PM: I really want to take a nap by this point in the day, so that means it's time for coffee.

6PM: I usually take a break for a bit to loaf around and maybe watch a movie with my boyfriend or my family. Can you tell how obsessed I am with Netflix? I don't know how people function without it.

7PM: Dinner (tacos!)

8PM: I have to go outside for a bit at some point during the day. I like taking walks or just sitting on the porch while knitting or working on my laptop.

9PM: I like pie.

10PM: Aren't my dogs cute?

11PM: Time to unwind. This usually means knitting for awhile, and in this case catching up on Glee.

Well, there's a look at my day. I notice now that it's basically just a look at what I watch and eat, but I didn't think that a bunch of pictures of my computer screen would interest anyone, so there you go. How do you spend your days? If you do a post like this, leave a link in the comments so I can check it out!
