Pokemon Hat of the Week: Meowth

Aside from Pikachu, Meowth might be the most recognizable Pokemon out there. He hangs out with Team Rocket and has a kind of annoying voice, but he's still pretty cool looking. Here he is in hat form:

Not familiar? Here's a look:

I'm not sure what hat I'll have for you next. Any requests?

Traditional American Crafts

A few weeks ago I went to a used book sale at a local church, where they were selling so many books for soooo cheap. The fiction section was pretty picked-through, but I can always count on these types of sales for some really great antiquing and craft books. This one did not disappoint. One of the books I got was the Better Homes and Gardens Traditional American Crafts. Just flipping through the pages is pretty inspirational, so I thought I'd just show you a few pretty pages.

Inspiration Workshop: The Beach

July is almost over, which means that autumn is just around the corner AND I HAVEN'T BEEN TO THE BEACH YET. This is upsetting, even though I don't like to swim in any water that's not a pool (fish and plants and mud, yuck). There's just something about being at the beach that's so relaxing and amazing. I love going out on boats, having bonfires, and just sitting and reading. And yes, I do swim sometimes, just not as much as one might normally do so at the beach.

At the end of August, I'm going to my friend's house on a lake for a week and I could not be more excited! The days start pretty early for me - I get up at about 7 and go sit on the porch with my computer so I can get a little bit of work done before my friends wake up. Then some of the guys get up and go out on the dock to fish. A few hours later, my girlfriends wake up and make mimosas - we hang out on the beach for awhile then go inside and watch terrible movies (weird beach activity, I know, but it's so fun). Then at night we'll have a really huge and awesome bonfire.

One of my top life goals is to own a house on a lake so that I can spend lots of weekends each summer there relaxing and having fun with friends and family. What could be better than that?

July Sponsor Love

My July sponsors are so wonderful! You can always see their shops and blogs over on the sidebar, but today they're offering some exclusive content and deals for all of you.

My Life as a Teacup
Kristin of mylifeasateacup has been busy, busy, busy this month with Poor Yorick’s Players rehearsing for their performance of Macbeth and launching a new mini-blog – Something Wicked This Way Comes - for the show! While not being witchy (she's one of the Witches in the play :D), she’s found the time to mourn Harry Potter, have plenty of bonfires, and enjoy the tastes and sounds of summer.

Hello Dearie
You may already know about Dawn's blog from past sponsor features, but did you know she also has a shop? Hello Dearie on Etsy is full of handmade goodness including but not limited to pillows, camera straps, and other accessories. And this month you can receive 15% off your entire order with the coupon code WATTLEBIRD!

Garden of Eden Designs
Victoria has a really awesome shop and blogFollowing her passions led to opening her jewelry shop, Garden of Eden Designs, and her artwork shop, Painted Blooms. She finds it liberating to be able to share her designs and paintings in such a supportive community. Because of this excitement and desire to share her work, she started the Be One of a Kind blog. This is her little corner of the world where she shares her everyday inspirations and creative adventures.

Shabby Apple
Shabby Apple is a wonderful dress and accessories shop that has some really great deals going on right now. For a limited time only, get 20% off all dresses and almost all other items with the coupon code SUMMER20. AND, as if that wasn't enough, they're currently offering free shipping. So hurry over and snag some cute dresses!

After Nine to Five
Ashley's blog is one of my favorites. She writes really honestly about starting her own business and the everyday activities of a shop owner and blogger. She also has a shop with some really cute prints and accessories!

Katie Writes
Katie has a cute blog chronicling the life of a newlywed, fashion lover, and crafter. And she's currently in the process of opening her own shop and I'm sure it will be amazing! Here's a sneak peek, and keep an eye on her blog for updates!

Along for the Ride
Laura is probably one of the sweetest girls I've met through blogging. Her blog is so positive and uplifting, and everything in her shop is adorable!

Sew Ewe-nique Designs
Kelly's shop is fully-stocked with some new, adorable accessories. Clutches, button earrings, and fabric frame necklaces are among the items on my wishlist. And her blog chronicles the life of an Etsy shop owner and new homeowner.

Hiya Luv
Gina is another one of the sweetest blogging gals around! This month she has a couple of exciting new projects, including Scattergirls and the new SetUpShop blog.

I can't say enough about Christen's shop. It is one of the cutest around, and there's so much variety: prints, vintage, accessories and more! This one is my favorite.

Mandipity's Baby Shower

A few weeks ago, I got an email from Gina inviting me to a baby shower for blog friend, Mandy. I'm really not a big fan of baby showers, but I can get down with this virtual version. I get to wish my friend well without 4 hours of oohing and ahhing at breast pumps and diapers (it's cool if you love baby showers - it's just not my thing).

But in all seriousness - Mandy, you are one of the sweetest ladies I've had the pleasure of "meeting" and I wish you all the best. I'm sure you will be a wonderful mom, and I found some baby stuff on etsy that I thought was cute. So here you go!

Heat Wave

floral dress

I find that when I have nothing particularly interesting to blog about, I start talking about the weather. But seriously, it's been stupidly hot here. Leaving my house is almost impossible - even the walk to my car leaves me feeling like a sweaty mess. Today has been the first semi-normal day in over a week (by semi-normal, I mean high 80's). So this is what I'm blogging about today. Deal with it.

Glee Giveaway!

So who watches Glee? You can tell me the truth, because I'm a total Gleek too. One of my favorite parts of the show is Sue's sarcastic jabs at Will. My friend Santa recently opened an Etsy shop with some really impressive cross-stitches and she thought that one of my readers might like to win a Sue Sylvester quote in cross-stitch form (heck yes!)

How is everyone doing this weekend?! It's so stinkin hot here, I can't even stand it. So I'm hiding out in my air conditioned house working during the day and hopefully finding a way to go swimming at night. I know it's hot in a lot of other places right now too, so I hope you're all staying cool.

Here's a random photo of my friends that has nothing to do with this post. I just thought it was funny and the post needed a picture.

First on the agenda... I'm looking for a few guest posters to help me out over the next month or so. I don't really have any guidelines for posts, just as long as it's something that would go with the rest of the content here: DIY's, fashion/style posts, current trends, nerdy stuff - any of that would be great. Please email me or leave a comment letting me know if you're interested. If you just comment please please please leave your email so I can get in touch with you.

I'm still accepting sponsors for August. Please email me or see here for more info. I'd love to have you!

My shop is closed from now until September. I don't really talk about it much here, but I thought it might be good to mention. I just have a lot of work to do over the next six weeks, some of it actually requiring me to leave the house (yeesh!) and I won't have time for post office runs and all that good stuff (also the reason I want a couple guest posters in case I get super busy). When I re-open in September I'll be doing a huge overhaul and bringing in a lot of Halloween accessories. I'm very excited!

If anyone is interested in hosting a giveaway or being part of 4 Silly Questions this month, please email me. I still have spaces available for each!

Thanks for reading my ramblings, as always. If any of the above caught your eye my email address is: wattlebirddesigns AT gmail DOT com

Fancy Up Your T-Shirts: Scrap Flowers

This is the first in a new series of posts I'm trying out: fancy up your t-shirts, where I take some old boring shirts and try to make them un-boring. I previously shared this tutorial on the Scattergirls blog. Enjoy!

The basic gist of this tutorial is that we'll take two t-shirts, cut off a little around the collar and make scrap flowers in different colors. You can keep it all one color if you'd like, but I think this is just a little more fancy I think. The starting points:

Now you need to measure out how much you want to cut off the collar (up to you), turn the t-shirt inside out and use a highlighter or other light/washable writing utensil to mark where you'll make your cut.

tshirt diy

Begin rolling the leftover scraps from the collar around itself, as shown. You should have enough scraps for about three flowers.

tshirt rosette

Stitch your flowers together and onto the collar area, off to the side.

The finished products:

Voila! Enjoy your pretty, non-boring t-shirts!
