A Night at the Speakeasy

Last weekend I attended my local historical musuem's annual Spring Speakeasy, an event where everyone dresses up in their favorite 1920's attire, drinks "illegal" beer and dances the Charleston. I've always loved the culture of this time period, so this is one of my absolute favorite local events. (I've blogged about it before too). Here are some of my many photos from the evening:

There were hobby horse races, and people placed bets on the horses they wanted to win.

This is the Temperance League, who gave a speech about the evils of alcohol (to lots of "boo"s from the crowd)

Inside, you could listen to live music, and the cops even came and re-enacted a raid!

The event is seriously amazing. There was even a fashion show, costume contest, and old Charlie Chaplin movies projected onto the side of one of the houses. One of the best parts though, I must admit, is getting really dressed up and doing my hair. Here's a close up (sorry for the crappy photobooth shot).

  4. How fun! I wish we had events like that, too... I guess our closest thing would be the Pirate Invasion (Beaufort, NC)... where everyone dresses like Pirates and wenches for a good ol' time of pillaging and whatnot, haha. :-) You looked very pretty in your 20's inspired outfit!
