My Shopping Habits

I've recently become addicted to online shopping. BUT I hate hate hate spending money. So really I'm more of an internet-browsing addict.

I got this dress/top online while F21 had its "shop for Japan" day where all the proceeds were donated to Tsunami relief. It was still on sale (I can only buy things when they're on sale) but philanthropy is one of the only ways to get me to actually pull the trigger and buy something. I have a lot of clothes, but most of them I've had for a loooonnng time. I barely every throw things away, and I do a lot of my (rare) shopping from thrift stores, garage sales, and even friends/family members who are cleaning out their own closets.

Lately I've been wanting to drop some cash on a few new vintage dresses. I have my eye on several on Etsy, but I CAN'T BUY THEM. I don't know what my problem is. All of the ones I want are affordable, but when my mouse hovers over that "add to cart" button, I get cold feet. I can't do it.

I know this is better than the alternative of spending all my money as soon as it comes in, but I sort of wish I could find a happy medium. I've always been a saver, but if you never spend your money then what good is it? You're supposed to spend it on things that make you happy, right? **Update: since scheduling this post a few days ago, I bought a few really really cheap dresses from Shop My Closet sales (my favorite things on the internet) & now I am happy and don't feel the need to online shop for awhile, I think!

Outfit Details:

Leggings: Target

So what about you? Are you a spender or a saver (or some kind of crazy mutant who's found a happy medium between the two)?

  1. I am definitely not a crazy mutant! :P I am also definitely a spender. I usually spend my money as soon as it's available. >..> It was Christmas gift money, but still!!!

    Also: AMAZING OUTFIT!!!

  2. I'm a mutant. I've always been really good at finding major deals (like stopping at H&M when things I want are $5) and a lot of my clothes are things that I can wear over and over in different ways.

  3. I am just like you when it comes to shopping. I want to shop, but I don't want to spend money. My boyfriend calls it being frugal, I call it window shopping.

I, too, shop around bloggers' closets, or search stores on Bigcartel/Etsy for some deals. The first thing I normally do is hit the sales racks/sales link.

  6. I love the whole outfit. I always wear leggings because they are so easy. You look so adorable!

And yes, I'm an online shopping addict. My husband gets on me about it because at least twice a week we get a package in the mail (but I can't help that I get 2 day free shipping from amazon and they sell EVERYTHING!). And etsy is too addicting :)

  8. first of all - i adore the shoes! i'm a saver for the most part. I like to have so much in savings and all that good stuff. HOWEVER, I can't help myself when it comes to things like purses and splurge big about every 3 months on a new Coach purse. But usually I don't spend a ton on clothes, accessories, etc.

  9. I totally know what you mean... I can't bring myself to spend money on something even if I absolutely love it. Especially online... I'm definitely scared of paying for something that may not fit the way I thought it would.
But I think you have a talent for picking out great outfits. I love the top!

  13. I'm a mix of both... I can not MAKE myself by something full priced unless it's really inexpensive. On the flip side... even when it's not really in the budget, if I find an amazing deal on something I love I HAVE to have it!
Glad you found a couple of dresses to buy online - way to take the plunge :)

  17. @ Kelly - A shop my closet is where bloggers set up a shop to sell their old clothes. I'd compare it to an online garage sale, but with just cute clothing and accessories. I'd just keep an eye on the bloggers you like - most people post about it if they set up a shop, I think.

@ Everyone else - Thank you! And I'm glad to hear I'm not alone :)

  19. I am definitely a spender. So this whole "no getting paid" thing is putting quite a crimp on that. ;-) But even when I was shopping, I always looked for deals. Hated spending full price for things! You look adorable here!
