9.30.10

This was my lunch today: eggs, cottage cheese and an avocado. Pretty healthy considering my lunch is usually cooked using a microwave.

Looking for: Guest Bloggers and Giveaway Sponsors

I'm going on vacation next week!!!! I'm so excited to be visiting this place. In fact, I'll be a little too excited/preoccupied to blog as much as usual. Plus, my hotel charges for internet (boo!) So that's where you come in... I'm looking for a couple of people to do a short guest post or two to fill in while I'm gone. Guest posting can help you bring some traffic to your own blog or site, plus you can blog about pretty much anything you want! If you're interested, send me an email and we'll iron out the details.

Also, I'm looking for a few Etsy shop owners who might be interested in a little extra exposure to host a giveaway. Again, email me if interested.

Amazing Harry Potter Drawing

I just found this awesome creation that a girl named Marryl drew from a screencap of the Deathly Hallows trailer. I love it!

9.29.10

Are you still wondering what the photo of the day was yesterday? Here it is:

It's an ice cream cone! Neapolitan, to be exact. I have a few other flavors too :)

Oh, and for those of you who guessed pumpkin, I do have one of those I'm working on too!

Glee Costumes

I've been promising shots of the costumes my friends and I wore to our Glee Premiere Party for over a week now. So I have finally delivered on the promise, not only to show pictures, but to give you look-by-look instructions on how to create your own stupendous gleeky outfits (just in time for Halloween ...or maybe your own Glee party?)

Disclaimer: Not all of the characters are accounted for, unfortunately. No boys dressed up for the party, and I didn't get good enough pictures of some of the other costumes :(

Emma Pillsbury
The key to being Emma is to make sure everything is just-so. There are no mistakes in Emma's wardrobe. Everything matches perfectly and everything fits into her retro, feminine style.

From the show:

Mercedes Jones
This was probably my favorite costume from the party, due mostly to Whitney's amazing pants. Mercedes is loud and sassy and proud. So you need to find clothes that are all of those things.

From the show:

Tina Cohen-Chang
Tina is the goth queen of the glee club. If you want to dress like her, you'll need a lot of black and a lot of accessories.

From the show:

Quinn Fabray
This outfit is preggo Quinn, because I like her better than Cheerio Quinn. Her style is very girly and very preppy. She always always wore dresses with cardigans and flats in light colors.

From the show:

Rachel Berry
The gold star of the Glee club, Rachel has a really unique look. Must haves include knee socks and a sweater of some sort. Bonuses include a sweater with some kind of woodland creature on it, and clashing patterns.

From the show:

I hope you enjoyed my analysis of Glee Club style. How do you think we did with our costumes?

This is a close-up teaser image of one of the new hats I've made recently. Can you tell what it might be? (I'll post the answer tomorrow)

Vintage Finds: Leaves

Leaves are fallin'!

As always, make sure to click on the photos to see these gorgeous finds on Etsy. And have a happy beginning of fall!

Wattlebird on PaperNStitch

Hi guys! This month I've been accepted as one of the handmade exhibitors on one of my favorite sites, papernstitch. There are a lot of great handmade shops on the site, so if you haven't already, you should definitely go check it out. Oh, and visit my shop too, of course ;)

Yes, that's my red slouchy hat in the Daily Favorites!

9.27.10

I finally finished these pillows that I was having trouble with earlier this month. I had to simplify the design quite a bit, but I think they turned out well.

Hating my blog design

As you may or may not have noticed, I've been changing some things around on this blog a few times a day for the past few days. I cannot get it to look how I want it to look. I thought I wanted a color scheme similar to the one on my portfolio site, but just a bit lighter and more girly. I got the colors exactly as I planned, and I hate it. Right now, about the only things I like are the background and the overall layout. I'm going to let this one soak in for a couple of days and come up with a plan of attack. Hopefully I'll come up with something I actually like. Anyone have any ideas or inspiring sites/images I should look at? All I know is that I want it to include yellow...

Picture Frames in Windows

Here's a neat decor idea I borrowed from my very own mamma bear. My house has an added sun room in the back, so between the addition and the main house there is a window. Instead of just putting up some simple shades to cover it, my mom bought some large picture frames and made a collage out of old family memories. Take a look:

Sorry for the terrible glare in the pictures, but you get the idea. I think the color choices are perfect, and the older pictures look great with the faux wood frame and the brick on the walls. Go mom!

Do you have any outside-the-box decor ideas you've used in your home?

9.26.10

My grandma's friend gave me a bunch of new yarn today! I'm so excited to make pretty hats and scarves with it.

9.25.10

Okay, so it's really 9.26, but I was a little pre-occupied last night. I went to the Detroit Tiger's game, one of my favorite summertime activities. Last night was the last game I'll go to this year, so I definitely enjoyed it. We also went out to a great new BBQ restaurant in Detroit and stuffed our faces with deliciousness. It was a good night.

Did you do anything fun with your Saturday?

So I'm a Minister now

Ever since I saw Joey get ordained as a Minister online on Friends, it's been one of my goals in life to do the same. This week, I finally took the (super easy) plunge. Maybe one day I'll perform a wedding ceremony for some of my friends.

So you can call me Reverend Annie now. Woohoo!

9.24.10

I dyed my hair today! It was already red, but now it's a little bit darker (I hate how fast red fades!)

Quinn Fabray Style

This week was the season premiere of Glee (as you well know if you regularly read this blog). In the episode, former cheerleader and teenage mother Quinn Fabray rejoined the cheerleading squat, donning her high ponytail and red uniform once again. I was a little sad because I always really liked Quinn's non-cheerleader style: floral dresses, cardigans, cute flats and headbands. She was always really colorful but sweet. So as a tribute to preggo Quinn, I made this collection.

9.23.10

Woohoo! I finally got new business cards. The picture is really blurry, but at least these have up-to-date information... and they're preeeeettyyyy!

Weekly Pinboard

This week I was obviously inspired by crafty images - mostly handmade knits. What about you?

Lion Hat

I've been wanting to knit a lion hat for awhile, but I kept putting it off. It wasn't the actual hat that was the problem, but the mane. I imagined spending hours just tying little strands of yarn around the hat. It wouldn't be a lot of fun. Then one day, I was getting some items together to donate to goodwill, and I found this coat that hat some faux fur along the inside of the hood. I had a lightbulb moment and detached the fur strip to use as the mane.

I'd like to find one that's a bit darker, but I think this one works wonderfully. And most importantly, it saved me from hours of tedious work.

9.22.10

So I didn't do much of anything exciting today. I got a lot of orders ready and took them to the post office, then I did some writing and freelance work. All in all, I spent the day in my pajamas and there was little opportunity for photo taking. So, I decided to just give you a look at part of my workspace (which I'll probably do a lot when I have work days like this).

This is my bookshelf and yarn storage wall. Yes, that entire hanging mesh basket is full of yarn. Other noteworthy "I-Spy's" in the picture: Darth Tater, my wizard's hat, yoga mat, and a paper mache/collage "A" that my mom made for me a few years ago.

GLEE CUPCAKES

Okay, so my cupcakes did not exactly turn out like I was hoping yesterday. BUT everyone seemed to like them, and I'm no professional baker or cake decorator, so I'm still pretty proud.

I made a cupcake for each of the main characters. {from top left: Rachel, Artie, Britney, Finn, Mr. Schuester, Emma Pillsbury, Quinn, Puck, Santana, Sue Sylvester, Kurt, Mercedes, and Tina}

I had originally intended to give them all little fondant outfits, but I did not have all the supplies. But everyone got their pictures taken with their favorite character's cupcake. It was a lot of fun. I'll make a post later with some Glee costumes.
