Mad Men Style

Confession: I've never watched Mad Men. I've always wanted to, but I have this problem with watching shows when they're actually on - it's called: being forgetful. So I usually just pick up shows in their third or fourth season once they're already established and I just watch it online for awhile until I catch up. That's what I plan on doing with Mad Men.

But despite my ignorance to what the show is actually about, I can't help but fall in love with the fashion. I love that time period and all of the style that it brought. My favorite character is Joan Holloway/Harris, because I'm partial to gingers and I think she's sassy.

AMC has this awesome feature called MadMenYourself, so in lieu of a traditional Polyvore style post, I'm just going to "mad men myself." Enjoy!

I helped the Gulf Coast (and you should too!)

If you're part of the Etsy community, you probably know that everyone loves to help each other. Whether it's RTing a new listing from a fellow seller or donating profits to a good cause, Etsians are always stepping up to the plate in a big way.

Since this is one of my favorite parts of this little online community - I definitely need to do my part. So the other day I scoured the Help the Gulf Coast Etsy shop for some fun little purchases. I found these.

They're little pendants with sea creatures on them (a whale and an otter). I thought it would be a perfect way to show my support (however miniscule it may seem). Oh, and the coolest part is that they're made from Scrabble pendants!

The seller of these awesome pieces is HomeStudio, which is a really cool shop itself. My hat is off to all of you who donate items, make purchases, or support this kind of work. It is really remarkable.

Birthday Bash

This weekend my large extended family got together to celebrate my Grandma's 80th birthday. She is quite awesome, if I do say so, and 80th birthdays don't come along every day, so it was pretty special. There were lots of kids, games, food, fun, and of course I took a lot of pictures.

{my boyfriend being weird}

{my great uncle checking out Luke's new (old) car}

{mom and brother enjoying some bbq+brewskies}

{all of the grandkids}

I took so many more, and I'm going to use all of them to make a scrapbook for her. I have never scrapbooked before, so it should be interesting. I'll definitely blog about it later.

Anyway, I hope all of you had a great weekend too! Anything really exciting??

Pokemon Hat of the Week: Oddish

Time for another Pokemon hat. This week's pick is Oddish, one of my personal favorites. He is modeled by my friend, Drew. (And photographed by Tommy, as always).

Oddish is a grass/poison Pokemon. Here's what he looks like in non-hat form.

Next week: Jigglypuff

Shop Local: Boulder

I've never been to Boulder (or Colorado for that matter), but I've heard nothing but good things about it. So when I went to look for some Etsy shops from this community, I had high expectations. Let's just say I was not disappointed.

Beautiful. Sophisticated. Simple. The jewelry in this shop just looks so classy and classic. I'll take one of everything, please.

Birds, trees, folk art - this shop has the most adorable pillows I've seen in a long time.

The geographic art in this shop is so intricate. Each and every design is so carefully crafted, and it looks amazing!

The photos in this shop are so pretty and feminine. There are some from nature, some inspired by animals, but all of them are just beautiful.

This shop has so many great paintings, both still lifes and abstract designs. Everything is so colorful and well-done. I actually thought her still lifes were photos at first glance.

Next month, I'm heading to Austin, TX. If you hail from this Southern Metropolis and you have an Etsy shop you'd like me to include, send me an email -

So Sweet!

I like nice people! (Who doesn't?) But sometimes I think we all (myself included) forget how far a few simple, nice words can go.

That's why I'm in love with these free downloads from Kind Over Matter and MooMama.

I also love these nice notes from Operation Nice. You can write cute little notes on them and leave them for friends or strangers. The world needs more of these.

Giveaway on Hiya Luv!

Hi "luvs!" This week I am collaborating with one of my favorite blog-land friends for a very special birthday-week giveaway.

The wonderful Gina of HiyaLuv is celebrating HER birthday by giving away gifts to OTHER PEOPLE. How awesome is that? I'm flattered that she asked me to be part of the festivities. So I'll be giving away this cute little pink bow necklace. The giveaway ends this week, so hurry up and enter!

P.S. I am also having a giveaway here, if you haven't entered yet.
P.P.S. I'm still looking for a few tattoo pictures for a blog feature, so if any of you have some ink you'd like to share, read more here.

Pokemon Hat of the Week: Charmander

Hi folks. Today I'm starting a new weekly feature on this blog: Pokemon Hat of the Week. It will consist of me sharing a Pokemon hat that I've made and telling you how awesome it is. Well, maybe not so much the second part - but I do think they are pretty swell.

Anyway, I hope to do this until I have completed all 151 original Pokemon (with maybe a few extras thrown in here and there, i.e. the pokeball and Ash's hat). I hope I can keep this going.

The first one I'm sharing with you (even though I've actually shared some photos before) is Charmander. I picked him simply because my friend Cory is making the greatest face ever in the top photo.

If you want to see more, and can't wait for next week (which you should, since that's all part of the fun) these pictures were taken by my friend Tommy, and he has a flickr set for the ones he's taken so far.

Next week: Oddish.

Lucy Ricardo Style

When I was younger, I used to watch I Love Lucy for hours at a time. I couldn't get enough of Lucy and her crazy adventures, not to mention her style. In fact, she's probably a big part of the reason I decided to become a redhead. Even though the show was in black and white, you knew that her outfits were full of vibrant colors and fun patterns. Her full-bodied skirts and trademark pearls are also part of why we all fell in love with Lucy.
