Sex and the City Style

I'm almost kind of ashamed to admit that I haven't seen the new Sex and the City movie yet. I'm a huge fan of the series and the first movie, but I really just haven't had the time yet. BUT, I did have the time to create some collections based on the girls' looks. Here goes...

This lady does wear some crazy getups sometimes, but she definitely knows her style. She's big on accessories and unexpected pairings. I really like this photo of her because it's sort of toned down but she still stands out in a big way.

Oh Samantha, you're so brave and confident. This girl would wear a strapless dress outside in the middle of January. She's also got some crazy glam accessories to dress it up, so she can make sure she's the first thing a new guy sees when he enters the room.

V-neck bandage dress, $975
Valentino Tailored leather jacket, $1,449
Dorepi 100 ponyskin pumps, $895
Slim Monogram, $1,240
Vintage Chanel 1980's Gold Tone Quilted Signature Interlocking 'CC'..., $592
Desiree faux-leather cuff, $350
Karen Walker Eyewear 'Helter Skelter' - Vintage, 149 GBP

This lady has a unique way of mixing quirky style with business attire. Her bright red hair makes bright colors stand out even more.

We all know Charlotte dresses conservatively. Blazers and high neckline's are this girl's best friend. But she still seems to always look fantastic and stylish.

Nicole dress, $1,405
Christian Dior Button jacket with bow neck, 1,300 GBP
Witchery, Casual Wear and Flats, Rose Twist Ballet, 150 AUD
8.5-9.0mm Hanadama Akoya White Pearl Necklace: Jewelry, $3,499
Tacori Fine Jewelry - The 18K925 Collection

Out of all these ladies, I think I'm a mix between Carrie and Miranda. Which of the SATC crew do you think you dress most like?

Lego Photos

Well, I'm still feeling kind of "blah" and uninspired from a week full of work and other unhappy things. I have been making some neat things that I can't wait to share with you! But I'm not feeling like photographing/editing/blogging right now, so I'm going to share some old(ish) neath things instead.

These are "Lego Photos" of myself and my boyfriend wearing some of my hats (mine is Yoda and his is Hello Kitty). They were created using the Lego Photo iPhone app and I just thought they were kind of funny. I hope you're all having a nice holiday weekend! I'll be back with some prom fashion, a fun tutorial, and more geeky hats later in the week.

A Boring Update About My Life

As you might have noticed, I have not been blogging much this week. This is due to a few different reasons, the main one being this guy:

My boyfriend had to take a last minute out-of-town work assignment for a few months, so I had to help him pack his life away and hang out with him for a few days before he left. Then, I had to make up time at work since I took a couple days off. So that's where I stand, but now it's almost the weekend and I'm almost done with this crazy week. I have a few posts lined up for next week and I think they're pretty rad. So stay tuned and don't think I forgot about you.

A Few SHORT Thoughts About Lost

I know you're all probably sick of hearing about the finale of Lost by now, and I can't say I really blame you. However, this is the internet, and people post tons of crap that the rest of the world doesn't care about all the time, and this is my blog so I am going to do that now. This is mostly for my own benefit anyway - a way to organize my thoughts about the ending of a show I loved so much.

ANYWAY... I have mixed feelings about the show's finale. The actual ending I thought was quite nice. You can't deny that Jack's eye closing was the perfect way to bring the show full circle and wrap it up on a very human level (something I think the show has been lacking for a few seasons now). And bringing all the characters together for a huge after-life reunion was also one of the high points for me. I did get fairly emotional seeing some old favorites again. Initially I felt ripped off that the flash-sideways (actually flash-forwards) were not what they seemed. But that's Lost. I've let that part sink in a bit, and I'm actually okay with it.

Now onto the not so great things. I never expected ALL of my questions to be answered in one episode, especially since new questions were still coming up each week this season. But I really was hoping that some of the main points of the show: what was so special about the island, the light, why did the evil (nameless) MIB need to be contained, would be explained. These were things I never really cared about initially, but the show spent so much time on these issues recently, that I had to believe they were important things I would find out about later. Instead, we were forced to just deal with the fact that the show was about these characters dealing with issues that were simply bigger than them, and they would never find out the true meaning either. Maybe this will all sink in one day soon and I will be able to enjoy the final season for what it was, but for now I have to deal with the fact that my expectations were simply too high.

Overall, the show was fantastic. I never knew what was going to happen next. It made me think. It made me care about characters who, on the surface, I never would have rooted for. If you're not a Lostie, I highly recommend the show, even if you already know what happened. It changed my perspective on a lot of things, and though imperfect, it was definitely a work of art.

Feelin' LOST

Yes, Losties, it's a sad day for us all. If you're a fan of the ABC mega-confusing hit, I'm sure you feel my pain at the end of this series. But there are still a lot of great handmade items inspired by the show. Here are some favorites.

Dude Print by umbrellaclassics

Spool + Plane Necklace by WoodenNickelsJewelry

Polar Bear necklace by thelightningbolts

"The Numbers Are Bad" Shirt by HotMonkeyGraphics

Dharma Initiative Soap from GeekyCleanSoaps

Well I hope that all of you fellow Losties enjoy the show. Feel free to discuss it with me here or on Twitter. I'm sure I'll be freaking out all night. Until then, namaste!

Squirtle, I choose you!

So I've been designing a line of Pokemon inspired hats. They're super nerdy and fantastic and I'm so excited to unveil them all to you. My first one that I finished (aside from this Pikachu hat that I made a few months ago) is Squirtle.

If you need a photo refresher of what Squirtle looks like:

I'm so so happy with how he turned out. I've got a few more Pokemon that I'm working on right now, but if you have any favorites that you'd like to suggest, I'm totally open.

Thanks, Pen Pal!

I mentioned before that I have a pen pal (thanks to Ms. Indie Fixx and her pen pal project). This week, I received an amazing surprise - some awesome origami and a mix CD. I haven't had the chance to listen to it yet, but I'm sure it's fantastic. And I just love origami! Just thought I'd share these photos with you.

Thanks, Amy, if you're out there! Now I need to come up with something equally as amazing to send back.

Graduation Pictures

Hi friends! I mentioned a few times that I went to Chicago last weekend for my college graduation, at Columbia College. Here are some photos from the weekend.

My family - dad, me, mom, and my brother

The boyfriend and I

We went to an Irish Pub after, and a drunk Irishman took this extremely blurry photo.

And my lovely flowers!

It was a really great weekend! I loved being back in Chicago (I finished classes in December, and have been living back in Michigan for the past few months). I hope you all had great weekends too.

What I Want Wednesday: Wallpaper

Sooo... after a fairly horrific experience with some Tweety Bird Wallpaper (yes, I'm serious - no, I don't have pictures) when I was in elementary school, I've held a fairly firm stance against wallpapered rooms. I'm still much more of a paint kinda girl, but I do love some of these wallpapers from Anthropologie. I'd love to use one on my closet doors to spruce things up a bit. Which one is your favorite?

Clothes Pin Wall Display

Today's tutorial is super easy, but so so cute and unique. I've been searching for a way to display some of my non-4x6 photos that's a bit more interesting than a plain bulletin board. While at the craft store the other day, I came across some clothes pins and was instantly inspired!

What you'll need:

  • 5 clothespins
  • 5 feet of yarn
  • 5 photos or other display items
  • 2 3M hooks

  • Slip the yarn through the center spring of one of the clothespins (as shown). You'll want to start in the center, so place the clothespin 2 1/2 feet into the yarn.

  • Tie knots on each side of the clothespin to keep it in place.
  • Do the same with the rest of the clothespins, spreading them out evenly, and leaving about 6 inches on the outside of the end clothespins.
  • Tie the ends to your 3M hooks (which should be placed just under 5 feet away from each other)

  • Attach your photos or other goodies and enjoy the view!

Giveaway Extension

I'm baaaaaaack! I had a wonderful weekend with my family in Chicago. I ate lots of yummy food and saw a lot of my favorite places. Unfortunately, while I was away I neglected some of my regular business (this blog included), and totally forgot that I had a giveaway going on.

So in light of my forgetfulness, I've decided to extend the deadline for my May Giveaway. It will end on Friday, May 21 at noon. The prize is two art prints, and all the rules are listed on the giveaway post. I'm hoping a few more people will have the opportunity to enter this week.

Note: you need to comment on that post, not this one, to be entered.

So many good things

Okay friends, I'm leaving for the weekend. I'm taking a trip to Chicago for my college commencements, so I won't be posting much (I'll be too busy stuffing my face). But I am going to leave you with this bit of cross-stitched awesomeness.

If you're a Lost fan, then I don't need to explain this to you. If you aren't, go watch it, please. That episode was a tearjerker.
